Furniture Sneak Peek

My love for vintage furniture knows no bounds. I love the quality construction of pieces that were built to last. I love the sustainable approach to keeping beautiful things out of landfills and reducing the number of new items being purchased. I love that you can find unique pieces that set your spaces apart. And I love that vintage furniture pieces are available right now - no eight month lead times here!

Right now, I’m using new (to me) pieces in my daughter’s room as I switch things up. The layout isn’t quite set, there are still some furniture pieces that need to come out of the room, the new bedding hasn’t arrived yet, and decor is the last thing to go in - meaning that these pieces are not yet dressed to perfection. But a little sneak peek never hurt anyone, so here are some of the spectacular old pieces to make their way into my daughter’s room!

This Antique Bed Was One Of My Greatest Scores

This antique Jenny Lind bed is absolutely GORGEOUS. I cannot wait to see how it looks once the bedding scheme comes together! The lines are spectacular, there are so many details to love, and the wood tone is a dream. I actually spotted this bed in the very background of a Facebook Marketplace listing advertising a yard sale. The bed was deconstructed already, and half hidden behind a storage pod, but I knew I had to try to make it over there to check it out! The woman holding the sale had packed all of her belongings into a pod and stopped by my area to visit with family before relocating to California. While she was visiting she decided to majorly downsize to a smaller home, and was selling probably half of what she originally intended to bring with her. This bed, the frame, and a barely used box spring and mattress became mine for a grand total of $30. I’m not usually one for used mattresses, BUT this antique bed has a non-standard dimension, and I was able to essentially separate the original layers with mattress protectors and add a thick topper to create a new sleeping surface that will still use standard sheets despite the non-standard size. We’re using Full/Double bedding for this antique find.

Love The Cutout Detail On This Headboard

This perfect vintage whitewashed wood and wicker side table was a Goodwill find. It has an angled shelf below that can hold bedtime books, and has plenty of space for a tissue box, water, and any other bedtime needs. It rang in at $23.

Another vintage piece is a chair that was made by my grandfather. I often sit here when I’m reading stories. It’s exactly how I remember it in my grandparents’ home when I was growing up, and it’s amazing how well it’s held up over the years. My grandmother used to joke that my grandfather did upholstery TOO well, because his work lasted so long that no one ever needed his services again. These chairs remind me of this little story, and it makes me so happy that my daughter beams over the chair in her room that was made by her great-grandfather. It’s all part of what makes my own exploration into upholstery so exciting. There’s this feeling of continuing a generational craft and making it my own that is so satisfying and makes me feel close to my grandfather.

So far, I have 5 vintage/antique furniture pieces in this room. I’m including family heirlooms, pieces sourced via Goodwill, from Facebook Marketplace, a yard sale, plus two “shop your own home” pieces that will be moving in from elsewhere in the house. I’m having so much fun finding the perfect pieces for this space, and I love that I’m able to add so much depth and texture with these vintage and antique finds. My daughter has even found her own way to appreciate these details - she’s started to using the turned wood elements on her headboard and footboard to hang up her silk bonnet in the mornings. It’s such a sweet little moment of independence and order that she’s been able to create for herself, and I love that it’s happening around these beautiful old pieces.
