Art and Music are more linked than we think. Each time we enter a gallery or museum, the music is carefully selected to complement the artwork. Traditional Ballet features a live orchestra, and some of my favorite ballet composers have remarked on the connection between visual and musical storytelling. Your favorite movies have scores that imbue the right mood to set the scene. And of course, songs can directly inspire paintings, poems, and more songs!
In this workshop we’ll explore the strong associations we have with music, and how to capture those feelings using other artforms. This will include reflections on time and nostalgia, the material quality of sound, the overlap between color theory and musical theory, and more! Learn how to create your own original work of art inspired by music!
Come see what creative collaboration can do as we create a communal playlist and explore musical themes together!

Art History Moment, Music and Visual Art Edition!
Kandinsky was inspired by music throughout his career as a painter. He often used musical terms to describe and name his works, speaking of harmonies within each piece and hoping to evoke a response within the viewer’s soul in a way that they might experience when listening to music. Kandinsky had a series of pieces entitled “Improvisation” and “Composition.”
