Creating Whimsical Objects

  • The Glad Suite Collaborative 1339 Linden Street Wilmington, DE, 19805 United States (map)

NEW DATE: NOVEMBER 10th AT 11AM

Workshop with Carly Maiorano of The Glad Suite

Whimsy - that delightful quality of being fanciful, of embracing playfulness for no particular reason other than the enjoyment it brings. While whimsy comes a bit more naturally in youth, if we’re not careful we can lose sight of whimsy in adulthood as we juggle the responsibilities of adult life.

This workshop is here to help you reclaim a sense of whimsy through creation! Society may not smile on an overindulgence in whimsy, but I can personally attest to the wonderful mood-boosting power of a light-hearted whimsical object now and then. Whimsy can help us cultivate pockets of joy in our day-to-day. See what creative collaboration can do as we explore the whimsically wonderful together!

Come create an original work of art that evokes whimsy! We’ll be making clay tokens and other objects, with a specialized air-dry clay that works like a kiln-fired clay. For this workshop, you can arrange to return to paint your piece at The Glad Suite, have Carly paint your token a solid color (including metallics!) for you, or you can opt to receive instructions on how to paint your piece at home once fully cured.

Feeling out of touch with your whimsical side? This workshop is still for you! We’ll talk about how to remember and capture whimsy. Let’s embrace the offbeat within moments of joy for joy’s sake. There will be lots of prompts for those who are unsure of what to make, and Carly will be teaching basic techniques in making small objects out of clay, including pinch pots and clay joinery.
